Ashburton Investments Institutional Virtual Conference 2021

Welcome and introduction

The conference will provide you with insight into a framework for looking at risk as well as local and offshore asset class return analysis, and also the drivers of risky asset class returns compared to safer asset classes. We will look at creative and solution focused uses for fixed income while providing an update on the credit environment. Our experts will explore the benefits of investing offshore as well as related protection strategies.

In addition, we will discuss why structured investments are becoming increasingly important to provide certainty of investment outcomes.

What’s the use of fixed income in a low rate world?

For the first time in years, South African investors are facing a situation where real yields are becoming scarce within the low-risk fixed income environment. Money market fund real yields are about to turn negative and the attractive real yields that were available in the enhanced yield space are also coming under pressure. How should investors think about this situation and what can be done? We will also consider how and why credit spreads should be separated from their base rates and how to think about the available levers when constructing a fixed income solution.

Diversifying offshore

We will explore the benefits of investing offshore through, Ashburton’s international equity offerings, provide an update on global markets and look at choices depending on the market environment.

Managing longevity risk

While predicting longevity and future investment returns becomes more and more uncertain, structured investments are becoming increasingly important when providing certainty of investment outcomes.

Solution panel discussion

An objective discussion on the current investment challenges and needs facing institutional clients and how these needs can be met via a multifarious building block approach.

Multi asset funds: Multifarious or nefarious?
