Are we there yet?

A little over a month ago, one of Italy’s most famous philosophers and writers of the modern era passed on to another world. Umberto Eco’s death on 19th February this year was considered an occasion for national mourning, and newspapers were filled with obituaries praising his contributions to the understanding of the meaning of modern culture.
