    Boshoff Grobler is the Chief Executive Officer of Ashburton Investments and is responsible for the implementation of the FirstRand Group’s investment management strategy. Boshoff joined RMB in 2000 after providing legal counsel to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) for three years. During the 16 years with FirstRand, Boshoff has served as a Specialist Transactor and as Executive Director for various capital market vehicles. In 2007, he assumed responsibility for the Debt Capital Markets division on the executive committee, and was appointed to the management board of the Investment Banking division. He graduated cum laude from the University of Pretoria with his BCom degree in Law as well as his LLB. Boshoff also holds an LLM in Banking and Stock Exchange Law from the University of Johannesburg, where he graduated first in his class.

    Murray Anderson is the Head of Retail Business and Head of Fund Management in Ashburton Investments and is responsible for global distribution and marketing. Murray joined Ashburton Investments as a result of the acquisition of Atlantic Asset Management by Ashburton Investment Holdings. Previously, he was the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Atlantic. Prior to Atlantic he held a number of senior distribution and marketing positions at Cadiz African Harvest, Old Mutual Asset Managers as well as RMB Asset Management and has served the industry in the past on a number of committees of the Association for Savings and Investment of South Africa. He holds a BCom in Financial Management obtained from Unisa, a Diploma in Marketing from IMM – Institute of Marketing Management and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP™).

    Batsile Ngomane is Head of ​Africa Business at Ashburton Investments. She joined Ashburton Investments in 2013 and has over 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Batsile completed her articles at Absa in 2002 through the Absa TOPP programme. After completing her articles, she worked in different roles within Absa Capital in both the middle office and front office. It was during her time at Absa Capital where she gained extensive product development and distribution experience, and she was part of the team that built the largest ETF business by AUM in South Africa. Batsile was instrumental in enabling the introduction of ETFs in Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana and Mauritius in her time at Absa Capital. She holds a PGDM (Financial Accounting) from University of Cape Town and a BCom (Hons) in Accounting from University of KwaZulu-Natal. 

    Alessandro Scalco is Head of Legal at Ashburton Investments. He joined Ashburton Investments in 2014 and has 7 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Alessandro completed his articles at Edward Nathan Sonnenberg Inc and shortly thereafter moved to Webber Wentzel as an associate in their banking finance team. In his time at law firms, he gained exposure to all facets of banking and finance law, including, inter alia, loans (syndicated and bilateral), project finance, preference share funding, note programmes, securitisations and regulatory compliance issues. Alessandro was involved in a number of securitisations, note programmes and loans during his tenure at law firms and also sat on legal sub-committee of the South African Securisation Forum. He holds a Bcom (Finance and Management), LLB (cum laude), LLM (Corporate Law) all from the University of Witwatersrand and has passed the required exams to be a JSE compliance officer in the equity, bond and derivative markets. He is currently studying towards a PGDip in Pension Fund Law through the University of Witwatersrand. 

    Nkareng Mpobane is the Chief Investment Officer: Public Markets. She has over 11 years’ experience in the investment industry. As of January 2016, she was appointed to the Head of Financials role for the SA investment process, responsible for all research analysis within this sector. Nkareng has a BCom degree in Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand.

    Diketso is Head of Compliance at Ashburton Investments. He joined Ashburton Investments in March 2017, leading a team of compliance specialists and ensuring overall (regulatory and mandate) compliance. Diketso has over 15 years’ experience. He started his career at Momentum Group where he served as a risk and legal analyst. He subsequently joined RMB Asset management and RMB Unit Trust as Regulatory Compliance Officer and Anti-Money Laundering Control Officer. He then joined Financial Services Board and served in these respective roles, Senior Analyst – FAIS Supervision High Impact Division, Specialist Analyst – FAIS Supervision High Impact Division, Manager – Capital Markets Department. Before joining Ashburton Investments, he was at Stanlib Asset Management as a Senior Compliance Manager before moving to Head of Compliance position. Diketso holds a BCom (Law) degree from UNISA obtained in  2002. He is a member of the  Compliance Institute of South Africa.

    Shalin Bhagwan is the Head of ​Institutional Business and is responsible for risk management solutions for institutional clients including pension funds and insurers. He was previously Head of UK Liability Driven Investments (LDI) for AXA Investment Managers. Prior to AXA, Shalin spent five years as part of the LDI Executive Team at Legal & General Investment Management, where he helped build both the UK and US LDI businesses, working out of London and Chicago. Shalin previously worked as a pensions and investment consultant for Mercer and Aon Hewitt in London. Prior to leaving South Africa in 2003, he was part of the Executive Committee in Sanlam’s pensions business. He is a Fellow of the faculty of actuaries and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Science and Statistics from the University of Cape Town. 

    Duncan Armstrong is the Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Ashburton Investments. His responsibilities span the depth and breadth of the business with a focus on information technology management. Duncan joined Ashburton Investments in 2012 having been with the FirstRand Group since 2004, where he has gained experience in transactional and investment banking. Duncan graduated with a BEng in Electrical Engineering from the Stellenbosch University and a BEng (Hons) from the University of Pretoria.

    Marc is Chief Financial Officer at Ashburton Investments. He joined Ashburton Investments in September 2012. He started his career at  Ernst and Young in 2008. He subsequently joined FNB Wealth as a Financial Manager in 2011. He holds a BAcc degree which he obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is (CA) SA. He is a member of SAICA and South African Institute of Financial Markets.

    Masande Booi is Head of Human Capital at Ashburton Investments. She joined the FirstRand Group in 2010 before moving to Ashburton Investments in January 2014. Masande has over 10 human resources years’ experience in both public and private institutions. She holds a BSc in Biology and Statistics from University of the Free State and a PGDM from Regenesys Business School.

    Jonathan Schiessl is a Director at Ashburton Investments and Lead Fund Manager of the Ashburton India Equity Opportunities Fund. Jonathan joined Ashburton in 2000 and has over 22 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining Ashburton, he worked for Bank Julius Baer and other financial institutions in London and most recently he co-managed the Ashburton Asia Pacific Fund before successfully launching and running the Chindia Equity Fund prior to becoming Fund Manager for the India Equity Opportunities Fund.

    Jonathan has a Social Science (Hons) degree, specialising in Economics, from the University of Hertfordshire.

    Rudigor Kleyn is ​Co-head of Private Markets at Ashburton Investments. He joined FirstRand Bank's Group Treasury, Third Party Funds, in 2010 which later became Ashburton Investments and has over 20 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to this, Rudigor joined RMB in 1999 where he gained extensive portfolio management, product development and distribution experience in various alternative and traditional asset classes in the South African and global markets. Rudigor is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a registered Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He completed his articles at KPMG and holds a BCom degree in Accounting from the University of Pretoria. He also holds a BCompt (Hons) degree and CTA from the University of South Africa.

    Navin joined Ashburton Investments as head of institutional distribution in South Africa in March 2015. He has 17 years’ investment experience having worked in various aspects of the value chain of the investment industry, as well as serving on various investment and asset allocation committees. He started his career at UAL Merchant Bank and has subsequently gained a wealth of experience in stock broking, multi management, portfolio management and research. Navin is passionate about investments with a specific interest in the business aspects of investment management. He holds an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand.

    Sameera is the Chief Risk Officer at Ashburton Investments. Prior to joining Ashburton Investments, she was at MMI Investments and Savings as Head of Risk Management. She also served the role of a financial and investment risk manager at Momentum Asset Management. While at MMI Holding Limited – Financial and Actuarial Solutions (FAS) Risk she was a group risk analyst. Her career began at KPMG as an external auditor . She holds a BCom (Accounting) degree and BCom (Hons) in Accounting which she obtained from the University of the Kwa-Zulu Natal. She is a member of SAICA and is a qualified CA (SA). She has also recently achieved a Masters of Commerce in Accountancy through WITS University.

    Isabella Mnisi is Co-head of Private Markets at Ashburton Investments.  She is a member of the Ashburton Investments Private Equity Investment Committee and has been instrumental in the establishment of Ashburton Investments’ unlisted credit, real estate and infrastructure businesses. Isabella has over 15 years’ experience in the banking and investment management industry. Prior to joining Ashburton Investments, Isabella worked for RMB, Absa Capital and DBSA specialising in fields such as structured finance, credit analysis, project finance, debt capital markets, coverage and interest rates, and derivatives structuring. She is a CFA charterholder and also holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Advanced Mathematics of Finance from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Masters in Commerce from the University of Johannesburg. 

    Nicholas Lee is Ashburton’s Director of Portfolio Management Services. Nick joined Ashburton in 1988 and has 34 years’ experience in the investment industry. Nick’s responsibilities reflect the breadth and depth of his experience, which he will now focus primarily on private client portfolio management. Nick, together with the team, is also responsible for Ashburton’s core multi asset strategy and is a senior member of the Ashburton Asset Allocation Committee. From 1979 to 1988, Nick worked in the Investment Management team at Barclays de Zoete Wedd, firstly as an investment analyst and then as a pension fund manager. After joining Ashburton, Nick ran the highly successful International Equity Fund for many years before taking on responsibility for the entire Ashburton investment team. Nick is also a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

    Jeff McCarthy is ​the Chief Strategy Officer at Ashburton Investments and is responsible for product development and strategy for the company’s global product suite. Jeff joined the FirstRand Group in 2011 with 14 years' of international experience in investment banking and asset management. Jeff has previously worked for companies such as Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Kleinwort, Barclays Global Investors and Fidelity. He holds a BBusSc in Business Finance from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business and London Business School.

    Tony Wilshin is Chief Operating Officer at Ashburton Investments (International) with responsibility for the strategic management and development of integrated and multi-domicile operations platform supporting the international investment activities. Tony joined Ashburton in 2014 and has over 29 years' experience in the finance industry. Prior to Ashburton, he worked at UBS, Barclays, Standard Bank and most recently at Kleinwort Benson focussing on securities and operations.

    Tony holds the Fellow of Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (Chartered FCSI).

    Adriaan van der Merwe is the head of Ashburton Retail Distribution South Africa. He is responsible for a team of Business Development Managers at Ashburton Investments that is responsible for sales, marketing and distribution of Ashburton Investments’ local as well as international investment solutions. Adriaan joined the company in 2012 and has over 24 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining the FirstRand Group he was employed by Old Mutual Fairbairn Capital for 11 years and was responsible for maintaining and growing relationships with strategic investment partners. He holds a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Stellenbosch and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP™).

    Tim Diack is Head: International Distribution, Alternative Investments at Ashburton Investments (International). Tim joined Rand Merchant Bank’s Debt Capital Markets team in 2008 and subsequently moved to Ashburton Investments. He has over 29 years’ experience in financial services having held positions at Liberty Life, Nedbank and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

    Tim holds a BCom degree in Law, an LLB and a postgraduate diploma in Taxation.

    Paul O’Toole the Finance Director at Ashburton Investments (International) and responsible for management of finance function. Paul joined in 2009 as Group Financial Controller and has over 21 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining Ashburton, he worked in a variety of finance and operational roles including positions at PwC, Equity Trust and HSBC Private Bank.

    Paul graduated from the University of Stirling, Scotland, with an honours degree in Accounting and Finance. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in September 1999 and became a Fellow of the ICAEW in September 2009.

    Craig Farley is an Investment Manager at Ashburton Investments and Lead Fund Manager for the Chindia Equity Fund and the China Optimal Equity Solution. Craig joined Ashburton in 2003 and has 14 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to his current role, he worked on the Americas Fund before moving to manage Asian equities in 2005.

    Craig graduated from the University of Reading with a degree in Business and Management. He holds a Masters in Finance and Investment Management with Distinction from the London School of Business and Finance, specialising in quantitative statistics.

    The Chindia Equity Fund has won consecutive Raging Bull awards in 2016 and 2017 for top investment performance.

    Robert Lea is Head of Global Equity Research at Ashburton Investments. He is responsible for managing the equity research team; planning and developing Ashburton’s equity research products, as well as setting equity strategy by market and sector. Robert joined Ashburton in 2017 and has over 21 years’ experience in the finance industry. He has held a number of senior posts in equity research, including as a global equity research sector head and strategist at UBS, head of Taiwan research and head of Asia Tech equity research strategy.

    Robert spent eight years working in Asia, including postings in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. He was top-three ranked as an analyst in the Extel / II surveys of institutional fund managers, in both the European and Asian markets. He also spent a period managing a pan-Asian equities portfolio at UBS’s Fundamental Investment Group in Hong Kong.

    Robert graduated from Imperial College London with a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is also a Chartered Accountant.

    Luke Gale is the principle dealer within the investment team and is responsible for all execution and trading. Luke is also provides technical analysis research to the investment department advising on market timing of trades along with risk management. Luke joined Ashburton in 2003 and has 12 years’ experience in the investment industry. He attained his PhD in engineering in 2003 and was awarded full membership to the Market Technicians Association in 2007, having gained the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) qualification. He holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC), the ACI Financial Markets Diploma (ACI dip) and is a full member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (MCISI).

    Mark Appleton is the Macro Strategist of Ashburton Investments. He has over 31 years of investment management experience, having managed the Unilever Pension Fund followed by a five year stint as Chief Investment Officer for Marriott Asset Management. Mark has been with FNB Securities as Chief Investment Officer for over 12 years and Ashburton Investments as strategist for three years. Mark is a CFA® charter holder and has also earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand and a post graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State.

    Mark is well placed to speak on a broad range of investment related topics, as well as on markets, from both a global and an SA perspective. Mark is particularly good at bring across investment and economic concepts to the lay investor. 

    Nick Skiming is a Portfolio Manager in Ashburton’s Portfolio Management team. Nick joined Ashburton in 2002 and has over 28 years’ experience in the investment industry. Until recently, Nick was Ashburton’s Americas Equity Specialist, for which he gained recognition and a number of accolades over 10 years. The early part of Nick’s investment career was dedicated to providing investment management services to high net worth private clients and institutions in both a Discretionary and Advisory capacity, on behalf of Barclays, Quilter Investment Management and Collins Stewart Asset Management. Nick attained the Securities Institute Diploma in 1992, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (FCSI). He also holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and the Chartered Wealth Manager designation. 

    Richard Robinson is an Investment Manager at Ashburton Investments and is responsible for the Ashburton Global Energy Fund. Richard joined in 2000 and has over 20 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to his current role, he worked at Abbey National Stockbrokers and most recently was Lead Fund Manager on the Ashburton European Equity Fund where he was one of the architects for the move from a regional to a sectoral investment model before launching the Global Energy Fund.
     
    Richard graduated from Cardiff University with a BA (Hons) and is a Member of the Securities Institute. He holds the Investment Management Certificate and the Securities Institute Diploma.

    The Ashburton Global Energy Fund was awarded the 2016 Investment Week Specialist Investment award in the Natural Resources category. The Fund also won a 2017 Lipper award for performance over three years.

    Simon Finch is an Investment Manager at Ashburton Investments with responsibility for co-managing the Ashburton Chindia Equity Fund. Simon joined Ashburton in 2007 and has 16 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining Ashburton, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2004, becoming a Fellow in 2014.

    Simon has a BA (Hons) in Finance from the Nottingham Business School. He also holds the Investment Management Certificate.

    Veronika Pechlaner is an Investment Manager in the Portfolio Management Services team at Ashburton Investments and responsibility for the Global Leaders Equity strategy together with Nick Lee, Director of Portfolio Management Services. Veronika also plays an integral role in the global asset allocation and equity investment process. Veronika joined Ashburton in 2008 and has 16 years’ experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining Ashburton, Veronika was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in London where she started her career in 2001 in Pan European equity research.

    Veronika is a CFA charter holder. She holds a Masters degree in Finance and International Management from the University of Innsbruck (Austria) and participated in the 1999 exchange program at Tulane University (USA).

    Shane De La Haye is a Trainee Fund Manager at Ashburton Investments with responsibility for assisting valuations, stock research and managers within the international investment team. Shane joined Ashburton in 2015 and has over 2 years' experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining Ashburton, he worked at Bedell Cristin as an Assistant Trust Advisor focussing on trust administration.

    Shane graduated from Jersey International Business School with a BSc (Hons) in International Financial Services. He holds the Investment Management Certificate and is currently studying the CFA.

    Laythamm Malorey is Senior Intermediary Distribution Manager at Ashburton Investments responsible for providing tailored solutions to clients in off-shore markets. Laythamm joined Ashburton in 2016 and has 33 years' experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining Ashburton, he was a Head of International Business Development at Thomas Miller Investment and Director at Barclays Wealth & Investment Management.

    Laythamm is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments, holds the CISI Level 6 Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management (Merit) and the ACI Diploma.

    Daneel is a founding member of Pointbreak, which he joined on a full time basis during 2003. He assumes various Group responsibilities, played a key role in the establishment of EBank and chairs the Pointbreak Group Board.

    Rein is a founding member and director of Pointbreak. He was the first executive of Pointbreak when it opened its doors at the beginning of 2000. Rein assumes various Group responsibilities and is, together with Monica Kalondo and Josephat Mwatotele, strategically involved with the management of Stimulus. He played a key role in the establishment of EBank.

    Ralf is a portfolio manager and a member of the Investment Committee of Pointbreak's Money Market Unit Trusts. He is a registered financial planner (Financial Planning Institute of South Africa) and is actively involved in Wealth Management, Financial and Investment planning services. 

    Florence joined Pointbreak's finance function during 2007, responsible for financial reporting and the pricing of Ashburton’s Money Market Unit Trusts.

    John, a founding member and director of Pointbreak, joined the company on a full time basis during 2003. He assumes various Pointbreak Group responsibilities and is the Chief Operations Officer of EBank.

    Wealth Management Back Office Controller

    Maunda joined Pointbreak in 2010 as back office controller of Wealth Management. She takes care of a wide range of administrative, compliance, banking and client financial transaction duties.

    Xenia has diplomas in Human Resources and Advanced Diploma in Management. A strong desire to acquire the necessary skills to establish herself in the financial planning environment but presently responsible for market settlements, administration, banking and risk management controls.

    Josephat joined Pointbreak during 2014, sharing the responsibility of managing Stimulus, as well as assuming an executive responsibility for Pointbreak Group business development. He is a member of the Pointbreak board of directors, appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Pointbreak Group on 1 April 2016.

    Nerine joined Pointbreak during 2009. Besides overseeing our company secretarial function, ​she provides valuable administration and executive support to the team in our Windhoek offices.

    Pieter is a founding member and director of Pointbreak, which he joined at inception in 2000. ​He was instrumental in the establishment of Pointbreak's Private Equity and Property businesses. Besides his Group responsibilities, he shares the responsibility for managing Stimulus.

    Wayne joined Pointbreak's Finance function during 2013. ​He is responsible for fund and divisional accounting and reporting and provides key administration support to our Property Unit Trust.

    Alet was admitted as an attorney in 2016 after successfully completing her articles, concentrating on conveyancing and civil litigation. She joined the Pointbreak group in May 2016 and is currently supporting the property and asset management functions of the Ashburton Private Property Portfolio, with a strong focus on governance, compliance, legal and leasing activities.

    Francois joined Pointbreak during 2015 as a Portfolio Manager, with a focus on managing the finance function of the South African property portfolio, after gaining valuable experience in the finance industry. Francois is actively involved with the operations of the portfolio and assessing opportunities for growth. Francois completed his CIMA qualification in May 2014, and passed CFA Level 1 in 2015.

    Keith joined Pointbreak during 2013, following 10 years of property management experience in the United Kingdom. He assumes executive responsibility for Pointbreak's South African Property portfolio.

    Roxanne joined the Pointbreak team in 2015 and focuses on the financial operations of the South African private property portfolio.

    Sheffield joined Pointbreak in 2015 as Portfolio Facilities Manager and assumes responsibility for the South African private property portfolio.

    Financial Director of Pointbreak Group

    Buks joined Pointbreak during 2014 as Group Financial Director and serves on the Board of Pointbreak Group Holdings. ​He is also responsible for managing the Human Resources, Risk, Compliance and IT portfolios of the Group.

    Mathilda joined Pointbreak in 2006 and is responsible for Group financial accounting, tax compliance and procurement. 

    Pauline joined Pointbreak during 2005 and besides her friendly and efficient office housekeeping responsibilities, she serves her colleagues and our clients the best coffee in town. 

    Petrus joined Pointbreak during 2012 as part of Pointbreak's acquisition of Keller & Neuhaus. ​He is Ashburton’s messenger and ensures delivery, postal and banking functions are handled in an efficient and orderly manner.

    Ronel joined Pointbreak during 2012 when Pointbreak acquired the business of Keller & Neuhaus. ​She is responsible for office administration of Ashburton’s Windhoek offices.

    Sandra joined Pointbreak during 2012 as part of Pointbreak's acquisition of Keller & Neuhaus. ​She is our Official Brand Ambassador, managing our Windhoek office reception in a warm, professional and friendly manner.
